Southwood Road, Gravenhurst

3, 5 & 8 km loops

  • Park at the main lot on Southwood Road (there isn’t a street number), even though it might be tempting to pull in somewhere else.

  • It’s stunning here, day and night. Bring a camera and get ready to add time finding your hidden nature paparazzi skills

  • When the bugs get bad, pick a windy day to visit and they’ll be a bit more manageable because it’s mostly open granite, not thick forest

  • Beware that the word is out on this trail, so it can be busy. If you’re able, hit it on a weekday morning for hiking or in Muskoka’s “off-season” for a night visit

  • It’s far enough from settlement (light pollution) that it was designated as the first dark sky reserve in the world, so it’s an incredible spot to hit for star-gazing, just be sure you know where you’re going if you head out at night.
