Southwood Road, Gravenhurst
3, 5 & 8 km loops
Park at the main lot on Southwood Road (there isn’t a street number), even though it might be tempting to pull in somewhere else.
It’s stunning here, day and night. Bring a camera and get ready to add time finding your hidden nature paparazzi skills
When the bugs get bad, pick a windy day to visit and they’ll be a bit more manageable because it’s mostly open granite, not thick forest
Beware that the word is out on this trail, so it can be busy. If you’re able, hit it on a weekday morning for hiking or in Muskoka’s “off-season” for a night visit
It’s far enough from settlement (light pollution) that it was designated as the first dark sky reserve in the world, so it’s an incredible spot to hit for star-gazing, just be sure you know where you’re going if you head out at night.
