McCrae Lake Conservation Reserve Trail
the First Left off exit 168 on HWY 400 South, Georgian Bay
3km In & Back (6km return)
This distance is to both the waterfall and lookout, but you can go all the way to Georgian Bay if you keep walking the trail beyond the lookout
This one isn’t necessarily great for rookie trail users, those with accessibility needs or young kids. The trail is marked, but the “code” isn’t provided, so some confidence and experience are needed.
In the parking lot, find the wooden “Waterfall” sign to begin.
For the waterfall, use the yellow trail markers to hike about 5 min from the parking lot, then turn right on the wide ONFC trail to get to the bridge/waterfall
For the lookout, follow the yellow trail markers to the “Crow’s Cliff” sign - the lookout is just beyond it.
This nature reserve is crown land with marked trails and designated camping sites available. We saw one tent for sure, plus a number of former campfire spots with pristine views.
The lookout!! The waterfall!! The beaver dam!! Holy cow, it’s beautiful here!!!
*This is the nature reserve near Georgian Bay, NOT the provincial park near Orillia.
